In Battle There Is No Law!
- Release date: 1988
- Genres: Death Metal, Grindcore
- Rating: 3/5
Bolt Thrower may be known for their Death Metal, but their initial debut takes a lot from Punk, a similar blend of D-Beat and Crust Punk, similar in style to early Napalm Death records. The production is rough, muddy and low-fi but appropriately Punk-y, and that extends to the relentless and furious, driving blasts of noise punctuated by the occasional squealing Slayer-esque guitar solo. Despite the album not having the structure of a Grindcore or Hardcore Punk record (“only” 9 tracks in 30 minutes) sonically none of the tracks stand out, all cycling between a couple sections and speeds (ranging from Fast, Very Fast and Very Very Fast), giving a similar experience. Not the most memorable album, but sure to get the blood pumping and be imbued with fury while its on.
