Anticapital

Anticapital Album Cover

Task a Death Metal band to perform some tight, riff-heavy Grindcore with some seriously angry and rebellious Hardcore Punk spirit, Anticapital is the resulting tri-fecta. Within 15 minutes fantastically blend fast, pummelling and razor-sharp Grindcore sections and more groovy and rhythmic sections with plenty of fantastic riffs all around, with ferocious guttural vocals to boot. The drumming performance from Rob Proctor is a real personal highlight, shifting seamlessly between the Death Metal and Grindcore sections with a fantastic sense of varied rhythm that doesn’t over-rely on pure blast beats.

The main downside is that at a 15 minute runtime, I’m left wanting so much more.

Misery Index

Misery Index Album Cover

Assück reprise their winning formula from Anticapital and provide another 15 minute helping of sharp, intense Deathgrind. The most notable difference is the presence of a Bass which provides a beefier, fuller sound and slightly more straightforward in its songwriting - otherwise this is the Assück you know and love.

The common consensus online appears to prefer Misery Index as the superior album over Anticapital - which I would disagree with, albeit an ever-so-slight preference - I marginally prefer Anticapital’s drier production and the vocal performance there, but both are great.
