- Genres: Logic Puzzle
- Rating: 2.5/5
A beautiful puzzle game, all about uncovering secrets and solving simple puzzles one box at a time. Pretty straightforward stuff, with most of the difficulty twiddling with little switches, keys and buttons. Short, simple, sweet, and surprisingly satisfying to finish - although they would definitely improve and expand in future sequels, both in the core puzzles and the integration into the environment, which is pretty bare bones here.
P.S. Make your own Tommy Wiseau jokes!
The Room 2
- Developed and Published by: Fireproof Games
- Released on: 2016 (on PC)
- Genres: Logic Puzzle
- Rating: 3.5/5
The sequel is a big step up in every fashion, the range of puzzles is expanded and there’s a lot more environmental exploration - a long way from just twiddling switches on a singular box. Perhaps a little more unintuitive at times due to there being more to interact with, but the puzzle-solving experience is far more complete and engaging due to the increase in visual and aesthetic flair.
The Room 3
- Developed and Published by: Fireproof Games
- Released on: 2018 (on PC)
- Genres: Logic Puzzle
- Rating: 4/5
The slickest and most polished game in the series yet - evolving from its rather simple roots to something more akin to a modern, casual-orientated Myst experience, with its many immaculately beautiful environments and variety of puzzles that connect really well and are rarely obtuse (with the Help function able to bail out the few obscurer connections).
The extra endings are a nice optional bonus as well (although having to complete the final puzzle 4 times to get them is quite annoying!).
The Room: Old Sins
- Developed and Published by: Fireproof Games
- Released on: 2021 (on PC)
- Genres: Logic Puzzle
- Rating: 3/5
A bit of a step down unfortunately, solid if safe and retreats more towards the 2nd game, as opposed to building upon the previous 3rd game - mainly down to staying in a single place and solving the mystery of “one box” (in this case, a big dollhouse). The environments and visuals are as beautiful as ever (even by the high standards of the series) but the formula is starting to feel a little stale.
