One gimmick is frequently all you need to get an interesting initial hook for a game, and the novel movement mechanics presented by moving an amorphous blob ‘indirectly’ by deleting cells and letting them regrow, is certainly a gimmick. Its certainly… different, living up to its self-described “anti-platformer” moniker, and the game certainly doesn’t hold your hand in working out how to operate this control scheme. This is both a blessing and a curse, as figuring out the basics again from scratch is novel and exciting - however the randomness in how the blob growth after deletion, combined with the control scheme being such a radical departure, ends up creating a significantly less defined feedback loop can lead to many frustrating moments - combine this with a seriously steep ramp in difficulty in the last few levels, it rather quickly sours what was an initially fun experience.
