Supergiant’s humble origins begin with Bastion.
- A neat looking indie game, visually distinct and the isometric view is done well.
- Gameplay is initially quite fun, lots of weapons to choose from and experiment with (although a lot overlap in functionality), and the overall easy difficulty is more acceptable to a hack-n-slash baby like me (although blocking is far too good), although I felt the constant narrow path level design forced the use of blocking and make the game way less fun as it progressed.
- A simple story as well, although the narration is the most obvious “make-or-break” aspect of this game, telling a story without having the budget or resources to show the grand world envisioned (this is Supergiant’s first game, after all), however it all devolves into “generic tough guy action lines” too quickly.
The game itself is certainly competent enough, and worth checking out as a little piece of history - but outside of that, its nothing special.
